Walz, Wes
NHL, the National Hockey League is a premier professional North American Sports League played in indoor stadiums. It’s divided into two conferences, each comprising of three divisions of ice hockey teams. Wes Walz was born on 15 May 1970 in Calgary, Alberta. His height is five foot ten inches, and weight 180 lbs. He is a professional hockey player. In 1987 to 1988 season, Walz played his first major junior game with the WHL's, Western Hockey League Prince Albert Raiders, scoring a goal and an assist. He joined the Lehtbridge Hurricanes and had 75 assists and 104 points as a WHL rookie. In 1989-90, he scored 54 goals and 140 points and was named a WHL East 1st Team All-Star. In the playoffs, he scored a league best 24 assists and 37 points in 19 games. The Boston Bruins selected Walz with their 3rd-round pick in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. During his rookie season with the Bruins, he scored eight goals and eight assists and after 15 games. In 1991-92, he was traded with Garry Galley and third round draft picks to the Philadelphia Flyers for Gord Murphy, Brian Dobbin, and third round draft pick. He played just two games with the Flyers before the close of the season. In 2003, he saw action in 80 games during his ninth NHL season and posted 32 points on 13 goals and 19 assists. He was named a finalist for the NHL’s Selke Trophy, given to the league’s best defensive forward. He finished tied for third on the club in game-winning 4 goals and sixth in points. He posted eight multi-point games on the year and notched points in back-to-back games on six occasions. He posted back-to-back two-point games with a goal and three assists and registered two points in three consecutive games. In 2003 to 2004 season, he played in 57 games during tenth NHL season and fourth with the Wild and finished tied for sixth on the team in scoring with 25 points to go along with 32 PIM and a 5 rating. He led the team with three shorthanded goals and recorded four multi-point games. Walz won a gold medal with Canada at the 1990 World Junior Championships. Just over eleven years later, he represented the national team at the 2001 World Championships.
