Stephen Peat
NHL, the National Hockey League is a premier professional North American Sports League played in indoor stadiums. It’s divided into two conferences, each comprising of three divisions of ice hockey teams. The league was established in 1917 in Montreal, Quebec and it is composed of 30 teams out of which 24 teams based in U.S. and 6 in Canada. They have a regular season and playoffs leading to the Stanley Cup, which is the NHL Championship final.
Stephen Peat was born March 10, 1980 in Princeton, British Columbia. The 2nd round, 32nd overall selection of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Peat is a graduate of the Western Hockey League. The hard nosed defenseman from Princeton, B.C. spent five seasons in the WHL, the World Hockey League with stops in Red Deer where he was the Rebels Rookie of the Year, Tri-City and Calgary before having his NHL rights dealt to the Washington Capitals following the 1999-2000 WHL season. In his first season of professional hockey, Peat was a member of the Capitals AHL, the American Hockey League affiliate in Portland where he was limited to six games recovering from a groin injury before splitting the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons between Portland and Washington. After playing his first full season with the Caps in 2003-2004, Peat suited up for seven games with the UHL's Danbury Trashers during the 2004-05 lockout year before having his rights acquired by the Carolina Hurricanes shortly before the midway point of the 2005-2006 season.
