Jarkko Ruutu was born on August 23, 1975 in Vantaa, Finland. He is a Finnish professional ice hockey forward for the Pittsburgh Penguins. His height is 6 feet and weight is 200 pounds. Ruutu’s position is left wing. In 1999, his first professional season was held in North America. He played his first NHL game on Nov 20th, 1999 at Nashville. He recorded his first NHL point and an assist on February 27th, 2000 against Phoenix. He recorded 58 points, 26 goals and 32 points, in 65 games for the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL and added 4 points with 3 goals and 1 assist in 4 playoff games for Syracuse. Jarkko played in 8 NHL games for Vancouver and recorded one assist. He entered the NHL after college and won the Calder Trophy in the following year. His regular season total statistics included 51 games played, 156 goals, 239 assists, 395 points and 322 penalty minutes.
 
The 2002 to 2003 season saw Ruutu ranking at the third position on Flames with 53 points, fourth with 30 assists and second with 23 goals. In the 2001 to 2002 season, he appeared in all 82 games for the second time in Colorado career, scoring 46 points. He played in 11 games for the Panthers but was unable to record a victory. He won 19 games while losing only five and registering a meager 2.07 goals average capturing the James Norris Memorial Trophy award to the goaltender with the fewest goals. He was part of the blockbuster trade to Vancouver Canuck, but Ruutu struggled and was unable to post a win in the eight games he played to finish out the 1998 schedule.
 
Jarkko Ruutu was drafted by Vancouver in the third round with 68th overall of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He signed as a free agent by the Penguins on July 4, 2006. He believes in hard work and complete teamwork. He is totally dedicated in his play.
