Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. The two basic forms of playing golf are match play and stroke play. LPGA stands for Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour, which is an American organization for female professional golfers headquartered in Daytona Beach, Florida.
 
Spork, Shirley was born on 14 May 1927 in Detroit, Michigan. Shirley Spork is one of the founding members of the LPGA and is well known for her teaching ability. In 1960, she served as the chairperson of the LPGA teaching division for six consecutive years, one of the 13 LPGA founders. She was founding member of the LPGA teaching division and now known as the LPGA teaching and club professional. She was one of six members of the inaugural class of the LPGA Hall of Fame inducted in October 2000.
 
In 1959, she won the California Derby Open, and twice voted for the LPGA National Teacher of the Year award in 1959 and 1984. She created the concept of the Teacher of the Year award. In 1947, she was winner of first-ever National Collegiate Championship held for women athletes. She was winner of the Tam O’Shanter All American Amateur and Michigan State Championship.
 
Spork, Shirley with all her perseverance and superior approach towards the sport of golf, achieved many aspirations in her overall professional career and became an international celebrity and a symbol of hope to millions.
