Rankin, Judy
Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. The two basic forms of playing golf are match play and stroke play. LPGA stands for Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour, which is an American organization for female professional golfers headquartered in Daytona Beach, Florida. Rankin, Judy was born on 18 February 1945, in Saint Louis, Missouri. Her height is five foot three inches. She started playing golf at the age of 6 under the guidance of her father Paul and has received instruction from Eddie Held, Bob Greene and Bob Toski. She played as Judy Torluemke from 1962 to 67 and as Judy Torluemke Rankin from 1968 to 73. She was winner of the 1976-77 Seagrams Seven Crowns of Sports award and was named by Golf Writers Association of America GWAA as a Female Player of the Year from 1976 to 77. She was recognized during the LPGA’s 50th Anniversary in 2000 as one of the LPGA’s top-50 players and teachers. In 2000, Judy was inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame and received the United States Sports Academy’s Distinguished Service award. She was received the 2001Dave Marr Memorial Award from the Shell Oil Company and also received the 2002 Bobby Jones award from the USGA, United States Golf Association. Rankin’s victory as a 14-year-old in the 1959 Missouri Amateur is still a record for youngest winner in that event. At age 15, she became the youngest player to finish as low amateur at the U.S. Women’s Open in 1960. She was a semifinalist at the United States Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship from 1960-61 and won the Missouri Amateur again in 1961. In 2000, she became the first player voted into the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame under the Veteran’s Category. She was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame on November 20. She was commentates for men’s and women’s professional golf tournaments on many sports Channels. She is one of the best known golf players. A unique style of game strategy and excellent judgment is what makes this great player one of the best all time golf players. Sheer determination, concentration and self confidence have helped her through out her professional career.
