Mann, Carol
Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for atleast five centuries in the British Isles. The two basic forms of playing golf are match play and stroke play. LPGA, Ladies Professional Golf Association is an American organization for female professional golfers. The organization, with headquarters in Daytona Beach, Florida runs a series of weekly golf tournaments for elite female golfers from around the world from February to November each year. The LPGA was founded in 1950 by a group of 13 women. LPGA Tour's events are held in the United States. Mann, Carol is a LPGA player. She was born on 3 February 1941 in Buffalo, New York. Her Rookie year was 1961. Mann started playing golf at the age of 9. She won the Western Junior and the Chicago Junior in 1958. She won the Chicago Women’s Amateur in 1960 and also was the medalist in the Trans-Mississippi. She has served as president of LPGA from 1974-75 and was a member of the Executive Board and Board of Directors. She was a key figure in the formation of the modern LPGA. She was named Honorary Member of the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional membership in 1993. She was also elected to the International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1982 and was elected to the Collegiate Golf Hall of Fame in 1992. In 1960, she turned professional in October. In 1965, she won the U.S. Women’s Open for her second major LPGA victory. In 1968, she recorded her career-low round of 65 in the final round of the Pabst Ladies’ Classic in Columbus, Ohio. In 1975, at the Borden Classic, she set an all-time LPGA record by carding seven consecutive birdies. In 1977, she was inducted into the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame. In 1981, she made her last official competitive LPGA appearance at the Rail Charity Classic. She has 38 LPGA victories and ranks 11th on the LPGA’s all-time victory list. She was a multiple winner in eight of her 22 active years on Tour. She is a player known for her mental toughness owing to which many of her famous matches went the distance. Her superior approach and dedication to the game made her stand out from the crowd.
