Thomas Bimis
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896. The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent at least one color of the participating country’s national flag. Thomas Bimis was born on June 11, 1975 in Athens. He is a Greek diver who competed in the synchronised 3 metre springboard competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics. After an odd event where the Chinese, Russian and American teams failed, Bimis won the gold medal together with Nikolaos Siranidis. This was Greece's first gold medal in diving and the hosts' first gold of the 2004 Athens Olympics, and the diver pair therefore became very popular in Greece. Bimis also competed in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where he placed 32nd in the 3 Metre Springboard competition. The desire to use his talents for the Glory and Honor of her God and Country propelled him in an attempt to excel at the highest level of sporting achievement to inspire future generations of his countrymen to do the same upholding the highest standards of patriotic fervor.
