Svetlana Bazhanova
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896 and were held every four years except in 1916, 1940 and 1944 due to the World Wars. The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent at least one color of the participating country’s national flag. Svetlana Valeryevna Bazhanova, or Bazhanova, as she is also known as, was born on the 1st of December 1972 in Chelyabinsk, Union of Soviet Socialist Republic of Russia. She is a former speed skater, who won the Gold Medal for the 3,000 meter at the 1994 Winter Olympics held in Lillehammer, Norway. She holds the World record for the 500 meter, achieved at the 1998 Winter Olympics held in Nagano, Japan, the 1000 meter, the 1500 meter, the 3000 meter and the 5000 meter, all of which were achieved in March 2000 at Nagano. The desire to use her talents for the Glory and Honor of her God and country propelled her in an attempt to excel at the highest level of sporting achievement to inspire future generations of her countrymen to do the same upholding the highest standards of patriotic fervor.
