Laurien Willemse
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent at least one color of the participating country’s national flag.
Laurien Eveline Gales-Willemse nicknamed as Laura was born on March 26, 1962 in Haarlem, Noord-Holland and is a former Dutch field hockey defender, who won the golden medal with the National Women's Team at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Four years later in Seoul she captured the bronze medal with the national side. From 1981 to 1988 she played a total number of 63 international matches for Holland, in which she scored eleven goals. Willemse retired after the 1988 Summer Olympics in South Korea.
The desire to use her talents for the Glory and Honor of her God and Country propelled her in an attempt to excel at the highest level of sporting achievement to inspire future generations of her countrymen to do the same upholding the highest standards of patriotic fervor.
