The Olympic Games or Olympics are an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Alevtina Sergeevna Olyunina is one of the finest athletes who set an appreciated position for herself in the Olympic history. She is a former cross country skier who was born on August 15, 1942 in the Pchelkino suburb of Kostroma Oblast. Olyunina competed during the early 1970s for Trud Voluntary Sports Society. She won two medals at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo with a gold medal in the 3 by 5 kilometer and a silver medal in the 10 kilometer event.
 
Earlier, Olyunina also won two medals at the 1970 FIS, Federation International de Ski Nordic Ski Championships with golds both in the 10 kilometer and the 3 by 5 kilometer events. Olyunina’s superior approach and dedication towards the sport made her surpass the other players of her epoch. However, she gained prominence only after she compiled gold medals at the Olympic events and became an international celebrity and a symbol of hope to millions.
