Walter Mahlendorf
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896.The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent atleast one color of the participating country’s national flag. Walter Mahlendorf was born on January 4, 1935. He is a former West German athlete, winner of gold medal in 4 by 100 m relay at the 1960 Summer Olympics. Mahlendorf was born in Sarstedt. At the Rome Olympics Walter Mahlendorf was eliminated in the heats of 100 m and ran the third leg in the German's 4 by 100 m relay team. In the final the Germans finished second behind the United States, but 15 minutes after the final it was announced that the USA had been disqualified for an incorrect exchange. Germany's time, 39.5 equalled their own world record. Walter Mahlendorf was also a member of German's gold medal winning 4 by 100 m relay team at the 1958 European Championships. Walter Mahlendorf with all his dedication and devotion in his play achieved many goals in his overall athletic career. He had the ability of defeating the opponent easily by just giving some extra hard work and efforts. He never lost hope in himself and always fought hard to achieve his goal. He is still remembered as one of the best athletes in the history of Olympics.
