Tatyana Averina
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896.The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent atleast one color of the participating country’s national flag. Tatyana Borisovna Averina was born on 25 June 1950 in Gorky, Russian. She died on 22 August 2001. She was a speed skater. She was trained at Burevestnik Voluntary Sports Society. She competed for the Soviet Union, Tatyana Averina participated in the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck and won two gold medals and two bronze medals on all four distances. The Swiss newspaper Sport had written shortly before the Olympic Games, that narrow specialization has solidly taken root in the skating sport and these days it will be very tough to find an athlete who will participate in all distances and achieve success. Averina participated in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid as well, but did not win any medals there. After having won 3 silver medals in earlier years in 1974, 1975, and 1976, she became World All-round Champion in 1978. In 1979, she became Soviet Allround Champion. Earlier, she had become Soviet Sprint Champion three times in 1973, 1974, and 1975. Tatyana Averina with all her dedication and devotion in her play achieved many goals in her overall athletic career. She had the ability of defeating the opponent easily by just giving some extra hard work and efforts. She never lost hope in herself and always fought hard to achieve her goal. She is still remembered as one of the best speed skater in the history of Olympics.
