Terry was born on the 13th of May 1939 in Fort Worth, Texas, United States of America. In 2005, he played just six events, with his last appearance coming at the Constellation Energy Classic near Baltimore. His best overall effort was a Tied 34th at the Toshiba Senior Classic in March, thanks to a final-round 68. He played in four Georgia-Pacific Grand Champions events and finished 24th on the final over-60 money list, with 11,292 US dollars. He spent last half of the season raising funds for an upcoming bid for a seat in the state of Texas House of Representatives.   
 
In 1991, he took advantage of the fully-exempt status for first time with seven top-10 finishes and over 200,000 US dollars in earnings. In 1990, he was a 36-hole leader at Southwestern Bell Classic before finishing Tied 2nd in Oklahoma City. He also Tied 2nd at Greater Grand Rapids Open, missing a playoff by one stroke. In 1989, he made 15 starts, mostly as an open qualifier.
 
In 2004, he aced the par-3 11th hole at Valhalla Golf Club during the opening round of the Senior PGA Championship, his second hole-in-one on the Champions Tour. He finished fourth in driving distance, the 16th straight year he has been among the leaders. In 2003, he Tied 18th  at both the Emerald Coast Classic and the FleetBoston Classic, where he also finished second to Dave Stockton in the Georgia-Pacific Grand Champions event.
 
In 2002, he was twice runner-up in the Georgia-Pacific Grand Champions competition, where he fell one stroke shy of Jim Dent at the FleetBoston Classic and lost by one point to Walter Morgan in the Modified Stableford format at the Uniting Fore Care Classic.
