Norbert Schemansky was born on May 30, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan and was an Olympic weightlifter for the United States. Schemansky was the first weightlifter to earn four Olympic medals, despite missing the 1956 Olympic Games due to back problems. He was inducted into the Weightlifting Hall of Fame in 1997.

He is a player known for his mental toughness owing to which many of his famous matches went the distance. His superior approach and dedication to the game made him stand out from the crowd.
