Uwe Dabler was born on February 11, 1967 in Ebersbach, Saxony. He is a former middle- and long distance freestyle swimmer from Germany, and won three medals for the GDR, German Democratic Republic at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. He was European champion in the 400 meters Freestyle in 1985 and 1987.
 
He was a strong determined player who urged and inculcated a team spirit in all professional athletes of his nation. He is still respected as a high caliber player who can build the professionalism in sport to lead his nation at the foremost position.
