Ilona Gusenbauer was born on 16 September 1947. She is an Austrian athlete who competed mainly in the High Jump. She competed for Austria in the 1972 Summer Olympics held in Munich, Germany in the High Jump where she won the bronze medal.
 
She is a player known for her mental toughness owing to which many of her famous matches went the distance. Her superior approach and dedication to the game made her stand out from the crowd. More than just statistics, Gusenbauer had the ability to control the game, to take over. She had the speed to float away from defenders and also to recover effortlessly.
