Gerhard Plankensteiner
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896 and were held every four years except in 1916, 1940 and 1944 due to the World Wars. The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent atleast one color of the participating country’s national flag. Gerhard Plankensteiner was born on April 8, 1971 in Sterzing-Vipiteno and is an Italian luger. Together with Oswald Haselrieder he won the bronze medal in the Men's Doubles event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
He is a player known for his mental toughness owing to which many of his famous matches went the distance. His superior approach and dedication to the game made him stand out from the crowd.
