Georgios Roubanis
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896 and were held every four years except in 1916, 1940 and 1944 due to the World Wars. The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent atleast one color of the participating country’s national flag.
Georgios Roubanis is a Greek athlete. At the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, he won a bronze medal in the pole vault, as he scored 4.50meter a Greek record at the time. In order to attend the Melbourne event, Roubanis lost a semester of his studies at UCLA, University of California Los Angeles US. He abandoned athletics in 1961. After studying political economics, he got his master's degree in local self-government. He had worked in the USA for 5 years as a management consultant, for a movie company. He had also set up an advertising company and a printing plant. In sports, he served as the President of the Panhellenic Association of Calisthenics and founded several other associations.
He is a player known for his mental toughness owing to which many of his famous matches went the distance. His superior approach and dedication to the game made him stand out from the crowd.
