Gennadiy Prigoda
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896 and were held every four years except in 1916, 1940 and 1944 due to the World Wars. The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent at least one color of the participating country’s national flag. Gennadiy Prigoda was born on May 2, 1965 and is a former freestyle swimmer from Russia, who competed twice at the Summer Olympics first for the USSR, Union of Soviet Socialist republics in 1988 and then for the Unified Team in 1992. The sprinter won a total number of four Olympic medals two silver and two bronze. Prigoda trained at Armed Forces sports society in Kuibyshev. He won silver medal in 4 by 100meter freestyle relay held in Seoul in 1998 and in 4 by 100meter freestyle relay in Barcelona in 1992. He also won bronze medal in 50meter freestyle in Seoul in 1988 and in 4 by 100meter medley relay in Barcelona in 1992.
He is a player known for his mental toughness owing to which many of his famous matches went the distance. His superior approach and dedication to the game made him stand out from the crowd.
