Hannu Manninen
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, are an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprise of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896. The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent at least one color of the participating country’s national flag. Hannu Manninen was born on April 17, 1978. He is a Finnish Nordic combined athlete, debuting at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer at the age of 16; he took his first medal three years later at the age of 18 when he won silver in the 4 by 5 km team event at the International Ski Federation Nordic World Ski Championships. At the 2002 Winter Olympics, he won a gold medal in the 4 by 5 km team event at the age of 23. He has three other Nordic skiing World Championships medals, all in the 4 by 5 km team events gold in 1999 and bronzes in 2001 the 2003. He has two other Olympic team medals as well silver in 1998 and bronze in 2006. Manninen has the record for most wins of 43 and most championship titles of 3, tied with Kenji Ogiwara, in the Nordic combined World Cup. He also has won the 7.5 km sprint event of the Nordic combined three times in 2002, 2004 and 2005 at the Holmenkollen ski festival. With all his dedication and devotion in his play he achieved many goals in his overall athletic career. He had the ability of defeating the opponent easily by just giving some extra hard work and efforts. He never lost hope in himself and always fought hard to achieve his goal. He is still remembered as one of the best athletes in the history of Olympics.
