Duncan Dokiwari
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896.The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent atleast one color of the participating country’s national flag. Duncan Dokiwari who was born on October 15, 1972 in Port Harcourt was a Nigerian boxer. At the 1996 Summer Olympics he won a Men's Super Heavyweight bronze medal, together with Aleksey Lezin of Russia. Dokiwari has had limited success in his professional career. He dropped a decision to Fres Oquendo early in his career, and after running off 10 consecutive victories, dropped a common decision to Dominick Guinn. A year after the loss to Guinn, Dokiwari was attractively TKO'd, Technically Knocked Out, in the first by unknown Stacy Frazier. Despite the loss, he continued on as he signed a contract with Starr Promotion in August 2006. In his Amateur Career, he had a record of 55 wins against 5 defeats with 46 knock outs In 1994, Dokiwari won the gold medal at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada. A year later he defeated the Cubans in Cuba by winning the gold medal at the Guama Cup International Boxing Championships. Also in 1995, he was declared the African Boxer of the Year after winning the title at the African Games in Harare, Zimbabwe, where he knocked out all his opponents in the first round. He was a Gold Medalist at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Australia, where he won against Emelio Leti of Samoa by TKO 1, Kevin Mc Cormack of Wales by KO 1, Danny Williams of England and Miriambo Anyim of Kenya on points. He also represented Nigeria as a Super Heavyweight at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, where he won against Mohammed Reza who belonged to Iran and Sifarish Khan of Pakistan by TKO 2 and against Adaliat Mamedov of Azerbijian by TKO 3, against Paea Wolfgramm of Tonga he lost on points, this was a semi-final match, and with the loss Dokiwari won a bronze medal.
