Diana Ziliute
The Olympic Games or Olympics is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896. The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent at least one color of the participating country’s national flag.
Diana Ziliute was born on May 28, 1976 and is a Lithuanian cyclist who dominated the sport in the late 1990s, and continues to be a terrifying force in road cycling to this day. She made her debut in the women's pro-cycling ranks in the mid 1990s after winning the 1994 World Junior Road Race Championship. She rose to the top of women's cycling in 1998 when she won two World Cup races, the overall World Cup Points title, and capped the season by winning the World Road Race Championships and leading the UCI, International Cycling Union points list.
The following year 1999, she further demonstrated her all around ability by winning the Grande Boucle, one of the hardest stage races ever in women's cycle racing history. This was followed in 2000 by a bronze medal at the Summer Olympics. For her achievements, Ziliute was awarded the Order of Gediminas, a Lithuanian state honor.
